Current Favourite Lipsticks

So sorry for my absence during December. I have just finished my 3rd year exams and was super stressed it. It is a week to Christmas and exams are over and I am now super excited! I have so many posts to catch up on but I work in retail so Christmas is a busy time. I will have to find a day and get lots of posts scheduled for you.

Anyway just to get back into things I thought I would do my current favourite lipsticks as everyone loves a lipstick post! I saw on the gorgeous Andreas blog from Rosychicc posts on lipsticks and that she chooses five at the beginning of each month and puts them on her dresser so she can see them. I thought this was a great idea to help rotate your lipsticks and get use out of as many as possible! So thats what I have started doing starting with December.

I have for mostly dark lipsticks with a nude thrown in for little make up days and heavy eye make up days.

First we have the infamous Kate moss 107 which I think everyone in the beauty world has. It is such a gorgeous deep vampy red that is still wearable. I think most people think they'd never get away with such a deep shade but it is really easy and so gorgeous on. I wear minimal eye make up with 107.

As you can see from the swatches Topshop The Damned and Mac Rebel are pretty similar with Rebel being only slightly deeper. I really have no need for the both of this as even the formula is pretty similar. But for some reason I have been rotating between the both of these this month. So if your looking for a cheaper alternative to Mac Rebel then this is definitely it. That goes for all Topshop lipsticks as they really are brilliant. 

Mac RiRi Woo was a limited edition from the first Rihanna collection back in June. I haven't been wearing this as much as I should which why I brought it to the front of my collection this month. If you missed out on the Rihanna collection again then I suggest you buy Ruby Woo  as it is extremely similar. This lipstick is really dry as you can see from the swatch but if my lips are prepped properly I don't find it too uncomfortable to wear.

The last lipstick I have been loving this month is YSL Coral Intuitive. I don't think your lips should have to be dark just because its winter. The perfect nude for your skin type can help make you look so fresh faced and winter ready. So if you've been sticking to reds and purples all month switch it up a bit with a nude like this one or I also love Rimmel's Notting Hill Nude.

So that's my top lipsticks for this month, although I would definitely be lying if I said I fully stuck to this as sometimes there has been the odd pink thrown about.

The Perfect Make up bag: blogmas #4

For #blogmas day 4 I thought it would be nice to share a gift idea. For anyone who loves make up it is essential to have a gorgeous make up bag to carry everything you need about with you. Last year I received this gorgeous Ted Baker wash bag and think it is definitely the perfect present.

The bag comes in two sizes and I have the smaller size so it is great for travelling and popping into a bag if I need to. The fact that is it plastic is great as it means it will wipe clean much easier than a material bag and after having this for a year it does not in the slightest look grubby. 

After doing a bit of research it appears they have changed the design slightly but they are still really pretty nonetheless.

Even if the Ted Baker bag isn't for you I definitely think a make up bag is a lovely thoughtful gift and you can even fill it with your favourite make up bits for a special friend!

Christmas Tag: #blogmas 3

Yay we are on day #3 of blogmas and today I thought I would do the christmas tag. 

1. What is your favourite Christmas song?

This is so easy for me! My favourite is definitely Michael Buble Christmas "Baby please come home". Its just so festive and cheery and who doesn't like listening to Michael Bubles amazing voice?

2. What is your favourite festive drink?

I am definitely not a fan of hot drinks I have just always disliked them. Not even hot chocolate can tempt me. So.... does wine count?

3. What is your favourite Christmas film?

Hmm this is a difficult one. I love loads of Christmas films but my top three would have to be Home Alone, Elf and four christmases. 

4. What is your favourite festive make-up look or nail look?

I don't have just one make-up look I love during Christmas. I like to switch between dark plummy lipsticks with a subtle eye or smoky eyes and a nude lip but not matter what the make up look I'll have definitely slapped on the tan haha! 

Nails I don't really take into account the season just really try and match my outfit. I still love my pastels in winter. 

What is your favourite outfit at Christmas time?

On Christmas day I would love to just stay in my jammies all day but I feel like I have to make an effort. This year I have already planned to wear a grey midi skirt, chunky heeled ankle boots and a baby pink fluffy jumper finishing it off with a big chunky necklace.

Just general winter attire? Cosy jumpers of course! 

Would you rather play in the snow or enjoy it from the inside with the fire and a cuppa?

Hmm well I think I would take the dog out for a wee play in the snow and when it starts getting a little too cold and wet head back inside put the pjs on and cosy up on the couch. 

Wrapping presents love or loathe?

I always love the idea of wrapping presents I have an idea in my head what I want it all to look like. I think I'm quite a creative thinker but when it actually comes to doing it I get frustrated and it never turns out the way I plan so possibly loathe by the end of it!

What is your favourite christmassy food?

Probably just christmas dinner in general it's such a nice thing to look forward to but I am always super full by the time it gets to dessert. 

Favourite thing about Christmas?

Just the build up to it I think - the christmas lights switch on, the shops playing the christmas music just the general happiness everyone seems to have!

Maybelline Colour Tattoo

I forgot to mention in yesterdays post that I am going to attempt #blogmas to make up for my lack of posting in November. If you didn't already know #blogmas is where the blogger tries to blog everyday in December. 

Anyway moving on with the post. You may already know that I am obsessed with the maybelline colour tattoos - they have a great selection of colours, have amazing pigmentation and last all day - just a few of the reasons I love them. 

I most recently picked up the colour Pink Gold which I would describe as shimmery light pink colour that is very wearable and won't make you look like you have been rubbing your eyes too much. I love to use these as an eyeshadow base but you could easily wear it alone for a subtle shimmer across the lids. I think this would be the perfect base for those who have preordered the naked 3 palette as it fits into that rose gold category.

Again with every other shade I own I have not experienced any sort of creasing and it has lasted on my lids until I remove my make up at night (usually after around 12/14 hours).

November favourites

My posting in November was terrible and I am really sorry uni work has just taken over everything. It is not completely out the way yet but I am hoping to blog almost everyday in December including a 12 days of lipstick series starting the 13th which I hope everyone will enjoy! 

This month I have had many new products except for my base which is the Rimmel lasting finish 25 hour foundation. I needed a change from my healthy mix to something a bit heavier and less dewy. This is not completely matte just has much less on a shine to it and I'm not sure about 25 hours but it definitely lasts all day. I will be doing a full review this month so look out for that if you are after a heavier coverage foundation.

For eyes I have been loving MAC cranberry teamed with maybelline colour tattoo in pomegranate. Such typical wintery colours that with the right amount and plenty of blending look gorgeous together. 

My all time favourite highlighter is being used again. MAC soft&gentle - it is perfect on the cheeks, brow bone and down the nose just to give a gorgeous subtle glow to your face. I love this all year round but during winter it looks extra pretty. 

My last favourite this month has to be this Rihanna lipstick in Nude. I made sure I got this when the collection was released a few months ago and barely wore it until now. It is a great brown nude for days where you have minimal make up as it is pretty unique I like to keep the rest of my make up minimal. - limited edition & sold out.

Winter Bronze with Deborah Milano

Even though it's winter now I always like to be tanned and bronzed looking and when recently shopping my stash I came across this huge Deborah Milano bronzer which I have had for quite a while now. It's definitely been a while as they have changed the packaging since I bought this a number of years ago however I am a make up hoarder and not great at throwing it out. 

I have this in the second lightest shade which barely shows up on my skin which is why I don't have a swatch for you (sorry!). However applied to my face it gives me a really healthy bronzed glow without looking cakey or muddy. I absolutely love NARS laguna for contouring but I find all over my face it is a bit much. This is perfect and I would definitely suggest it would be a lovely subtle contour for those of you who are paler.

It is completely matte and blends seamlessly into the skin lasting pretty much all day with the odd touch up after 7/8 hours. This will also last you years as it has a huge 30g of product. The only thing with the new packaging that doesn't look as great is it doesn't have the huge mirror inside that comes with mine however for £6.50 it is an absolute steal.

If you are someone who doesn't like to put away the tan and bronzer even during winter time I would definitely recommend this to you.

Collection 2000 Sheer Loose Powder - Translucent

I bought this randomly when I seriously needed to powder and didn't bring anything with me and it's actually turned out not bad. 

The packaging is similar to the Chanel loose powder but less bulky and easier to carry around with you. I wasn't expecting much from this powder but I have found using it with  a brush rather than the silly sponge they supply you with it works really well. I tap a small amount of product into the pot and swirl my brush to pick up the product. I only use a light dusting of this on my fore head and t zone but it definitely keeps shine at bay when needed. However it does only last around 3 hours and if you are too heavy handed it will cake a bit. 

I chose translucent and it doesn't alter the colour of my base in any way. For £2.99 you can't really go wrong here it doesn't replace my Chanel but if you are on a low budget and prefer loose powders to pressed then its definitely for you.

Christmas Beauty Wishlist

I thought I would do a beauty christmas wish list for you all but would love to know if you'd like to see a non beauty wish list too. 

I seem to have gone a bit palette mad recently with lusting over this gorgeous Bobbi Brown palette - it is the perfect size for popping in your hand bag for a night out not to mention the colours are gorgeous. I probably really do not need the Clarins essential palette as I already own Urban Decay naked 1 and 2 and currently wanting 3! But after swatching this palette it feels amazing and super buttery soft I think I have to have it. 

Every year Soap and Glory release there big skin care bundle and this year is it the Yule Monty set. I am pretty sure this will go into one of Boots offer of the week when I'll be picking it up for someone and hopefully my mum does the same for me - I don't think this has to be justified it just screams christmas! 

I have heard so many great things about the Bobbi Brown Make up Manual that I know my mum has already got me as she asked me to remind her what it was again. I just thought it was an appropriate thing to have as a make up hoarder and who knows better than Bobbi Brown. 

I curl my hair a lot using my GHD straighteners but as my hair in pretty thick and getting longer and longer it is beginning to take ages and a curl isn't holding very well. I have seen amazing results with these enrapture curlers and with Argos doing them for only £33.99 just now there couldn't be a better time to purchase them. 

Last but definitely not least I have wanted a Tom Ford lipstick for ages and ages but due to how expensive they are it just not something I could justify. I don't usually shy away from spending a lot on my make up I could spend £25 on a lipstick and £45 on a powder but £36 for a lipstick just seemed way too much. I think christmas is a good time to ask for things you would not usually buy yourself so I would love to see this under the tree is the shade Spanish Pink or Nude Vanille. 

I would love to know what on your list to Santa this year although it will probably only make mine longer!

Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara

Although I already featured this in my October favourites I felt it merited a full post as I had previously disregarded it. As I said in my October favourites I thought it was dryer out and useless but for some reason after wiggling the brush about it seems to work. 

The maybelline brow drama comes in three shades and I went for the middle shade. I have found that it actually gives off very little colour and it's sole purpose isn't to fill in my brows but to help shape and hold them in place. The brush is the perfect shape in helping me tame by brows and once dry it doesn't flake or feel crispy throughout the day. I apply after I have filled in my brows using the MUA brow kit.

I will definitely be repurchasing this as it works much better than a clear mascara for me but I may try the dark brown this time to see if it gives me a bit more colour. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for something to help keep your brows in place all day or if you prefer a more natural brow.

Winter Blush

For me, as soon as it hits the colder months I love to change up my make up. When it comes to blush I put away my peaches and oranges and bring outs the pinks. I definitely think pinks look gorgeous in winter as they give that natural flush to the cheeks like your that little bit cold.

I absolutely love Bobbi Brown blushes they are so pigmented and last all day without fading. Apricot is very oddly named as it is most definitely not an apricot shade. It is more a bright fuchsia pink that you can go a bit overboard with if your not careful. Apply with a light hand and its gorgeous, you can see me wearing it - here. 

A beauty favourite is Macs well dressed  blush. Probably most people who love make up already own this blush so if you do its time to whip it out for winter! It is pale girly pink with a subtle hint of shimmer and I love using it on my more natural make up days. 

Lastly if powder blushes aren't your thing then I love this revlon blush in the shade flushed. Again it looks super scary in the pan but once applied it is quite subtle and pretty similar to apricot. These blushes need a bit of building but it means you can't go wrong with them. Again these last all day on me and are a steal at only £7.99.

October Favourites

Better late than never I guess! The weather and general real life has been getting in the way of me blogging. I am hoping to be a bit more organised this week so expect some more frequent posts. 

October was definitely a quick month, here we are 50 days until christmas - I am so excited ! First thing I have been using throughout the whole month has been the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette. It is such a gorgeous palette with everything you need from neutrals to not that scary brights. Cannot wait to try out more of the colours as it nears christmas nights outs. See full swatches here.  

I like to think I have quite a good idea of what make up I like and what works for me. When it comes to skincare I really am lost and rely on other bloggers to recommend things to me. I have been using the St Ives famous Apricot Scrub and for the price it is amazing. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and clean but also my skin has been looking a lot brighter and generally all round better looking. As I said I am definitely no expert but this seems to be working for me! 

For blush I have been loving mac's well dressed as it adds a flush to the cheeks that looks very natural for the colder months. This paired with a red lipstick goes perfectly. My current favourite red lipstick is Kate Moss 107 but annoyingly couldn't find it for the pictures. It is such a gorgeous deep red that makes me feel so wintery. My last favourite this month has a bit of a story and if you follow me on twitter you will know I had issues with the Maybelline brow drama. Mine felt completely dry and nothing was happening and then I randomly decided to try it again and wiggled the brush about and it seems to be working. It doesn't give all that much colour but is perfect for holding my brows in place and not flaking.

Sunjunkie Tanning Products

I don't know if its just me but I know it definitely winter when my natural tan is completely gone and its time to whip out the fake tan. My skin tone is quite sallow but without a tan and a some sun I do feel I look a bit drained. I am always up for trying new tans and finding ones that work well and I had to share these products by Sunjunkie as they really have become a favourite. 

Sunjunkie sent me their sunless body mist* and instant tanning mousse in deliciously dark* to try. I have tried tanning mousses before and have liked them but many left green stains that look dirty around your hands and feet which is definitely not a look I am going for. I always use a mitt to apply tan as I feel it gives the best results and after applying the tanning mousse* I could already see a lovely light brown. I left it on overnight and in the morning there were some streaks on my hands and inner parts of my arms but as the instructions tell you this is normal and after a shower I was streak free and left with a golden tan. 

The body mist* was also a lovely product to use and virtually did not streak at all for me. I simply sprayed the skin a rubbed in again with a mitt. I would definitely recommend this product if you are after a more subtle golden tan that looks really natural even in the winter. 

A question I think most girls have about tan is not about its application its the smell. These products have such a gorgeous coconut smell that reminds me of a malibu drink, it smells gorgeous. Once dried and washed you are left with a subtle tan smell but its is nothing I can't handle as I have smelt some seriously bad ones in the past.

These are not wash off tans but if you want to keep your tan I would recommend applying every second  night and having a complete scrub and exfoliate around once a week to keep it looking fresh and not patchy.

Sinful Nail Polish

My nail polish collection is no where near as big as my make up collection. Its never something I have been completely obsessed with but now and then if colours catch my eye I do like to pick them up. I think Sinful nail polishes are perfect for someone like me who can't keep it on for more than a few days. They have a huge selection of colours all at only £1.99 and you are getting your moneys worth too as I find them to be of a great quality! 

The three colours I went for were Tokyo pearl a gorgeous pearl white, if you are like me and not a huge fan of the tippex white nails then this is such a great alternative reminds me of the sun against the snow. Next is Rich in Heart which is such an unusual colour it is a very deep almost black wine colour but in the light there are gorgeous red shimmers which I found extremely difficult to pick up on camera. Lastly I picked up frenzy which is a glitter polish including pinks purples and blues which I think could look lovely layered over Tokyo Pearl. 

I don't really like to comment on the wear time of nail polishes as I don't keep them on long enough but I have worn Sinful nail varnishes for 2/3 days without chipping.

Lush Goodies

A couple of weeks ago I attended the FABB Glasgow event. It was such a great day and I met some really lovely bloggers. I haven't blogged about it because I didn't really take any pictures (bad blogger) I was having too much fun wandering around the stalls and talking to everyone. One of my favourite stalls had to be Lush where there were two lovely girls who were so enthusiastic and new everything about the products. They very kindly handed us a goodie bag which included something from the new Christmas collection and also an old favourite. 

The first thing I received a sample of was the Dreamwash Shower Smoothie* I had never tried any of the smoothies from Lush so was super excited to see this is my bag. It has a very natural smell that I wasn't sure of at first as I am more a lover of sweet things but it has definitely grown on me now. It contains Lavender, tea tree and aloe vera all things that are kind to the skin. This feels extremely moisturising and nourishing on the skin and leaves it super soft and hydrated feeling. I will definitely be trying the turkish delight shower smoothie next time as it feels much better than any other shower gel I have used. 

The next thing I received was a christmas favourite the Angel Delight soap*. I had actually used this before and really liked it so using it again was lovely. Obviously this is quite a sweet smell although no where near as sweet as the likes of Snow fairy. If you like soaps that are subtly sweet then this definitely for you! 

As always winning products from Lush. Payday is tomorrow and I will definitely be purchasing a few things from the Christmas collection especially Snow fairy and a few bath bombs.

L'oreal Nude Magique Foundation

I don't usually buy any beauty product without trying it first or reading other reviews. When I saw this in superdrug on offer I just went for it because it sounded really lovely. I knew it was never going to be a winter foundation as I do like quite heavier coverage but I thought for days I'm only nipping in and out it would be nice to give my skin a rest. 

First of all the packaging is a glass bottle without a pump which is straight away annoying as it is at risk of breaking and also you waste product without a pump. However it does actually have quite an expensive look and feel about it. 

This foundation is extremely watery and does need a good shake before using as it could have split. The bottle instructs you should pour a drop onto your fingertips which is nowhere near enough for me. Once fully applied my skin does feel really silky smooth with a semi matte finish. For me this foundation does not give nearly enough coverage though and felt like it was just sitting on top of my skin. If you are someone with blemish free skin and don't really need much coverage you might want to try this but for me it was as much coverage as a tinted moisturiser.

Sample sized products worth buying

Samples are such a good way of seeing whether or not you really like a product and worth purchasing the full size, especially if they are quite expensive. I thought it would be a nice idea to share with you products that I think are worth the full price, however I suggest getting these samples and trying for yourself. 

1. This milk_shake color maintainer shampoo* is such a lovely shampoo. After the first use I could see already it got on well with my hair. It leaves my hair looking really silky and feeling super soft without looking flat. It actually seems to give my hair a nice bounce to it and smells amazing. I have already purchased the full size bottle which isn't overly expensive at £10.25/300ml and I cannot wait to try it with the conditioner too. 

2. The Urban Decay setting spray is a favourite amongst beauty enthusiast and I can see why. It is not a product I feel I need to use all the time but when I am going on a night out it really helps my make up stay in place. When I come home at 4 in the morning my make up is usually everywhere and looks like it is melting but this really holds it in place and keeps me looking fresh. At £19.50/118ml it isn't cheap but will last quite a while. 

3. I have already raved about the Morroccanoil treatment* many times but I really do love it. It has seriously changed the condition of the ends of my hair as well as adding more shine. It isn't heavy weighing my hair down and again a lovely smelling product. £30.45/125ml

4. Another huge love in the beauty world Benefit porefessional is used under your make up to minimise the appearance of pores. I don't have very visible pores but this is definitely worth having to smooth out your skin before applying foundation. It makes foundation but  easier to apply and have an even finish. Another expensive product at £24.50/22ml but you don't need a huge amount so should last a while.

Current Wishlist

Today I thought I would take a little break from reviews and would do a little wishlist of things I am currently wanting to buy. I read a lot of blogs and everyday my list gets longer and changes all the time. I have narrowed this wishlist down to 5 things that I am positive I want and a few have been on my list for ages. 

I know it is only October but I am so excited about Christmas and the yankee candles make me even more excited with the gorgeous christmassy scents they bring out at this time of year. I am not a huge fan of spice and cinnamon smells but I love the sweet ones like cupcakes and cookie dough! 

I have had MAC's vanilla pigment on my list for ages and I have no idea why I haven't got round to buying it. This is definitely first on my pay day list as it is a multi use product that is worth the month. I also think winter time is the perfect excuse to buy a white shimmery pigment. 

NARS multiples are another product that has been on my list for ages. I currently love my NARS Laguna bronzing powder but for days I am going to minimal make up and need something quite I would love to use this cream stick as my contour. Another multi use product - I am definitely trying to get my moneys worth. 

This powder from Bourjois is not long released and is popping up on blogs everywhere. I only use powder to set my concealer and a bit on my forehead when I get shiny but anything with the word illuminating drags me straight in. Not really a product I need to have but you know I really do. 

Lastly another newish release that has been in the back of my mind since it came out. The Benefit  rockateur blush caused a bit of controversy when it was more expensive than their other blushers yet signficantly less product. That aside it really look likes a gorgeous colour to add a glow to my face as during the winter months my skin can look a bit dull. 

So that's my current most wanted wish list although my actual wish list is ridiculously long. I definitely need to cut it down and decide what I want to buy myself, what I could ask for Christmas and what I really do not have to have as I own something very similar.

Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette

I have a seriously bad palette addiction. I just love having lots of eyeshadows together as it makes them easier to take on the go but also gives you ideas of what to pair together. When I saw the Urban Decay vice 2 palette I knew it had to be mine. I had a £20 House of Fraser gift card and they also do student discount if you didn't already know so I only paid around £18 for this instead of RRP £42. 

First of all I am in love with the packaging it is such a gorgeous colour and feels really sturdy there is also a button that automatically opens the palette for you - how fancy. There are 20 eye shadows in the palette ranging from really wearable brights, neutrals and a few matte in there as well. There is also a double ended brush which is actually okay but I much prefer using my own brushes. 

The quality of these eyeshadows are just as good as ever with the pigmentation being amazing on even the lightest shades and they are all super buttery and blend really easily. I haven't worn every shadow yet but the ones I have tested have lasted the full day for me with a primer. 

I really cannot fault this palette and would say if you are looking for one that will have a big range of colours and is easy to carry around then this is definitely it. I would say my favourite shades would have to damaged and radar but I know pretty much all of them will come in use at some point. 

If you think you might like this palette then be quick as it is limited edition.

Barry M Natural Glow Palette

Sorry I have been posting so little lately. I am back at uni and blogging has taken a bit of a back seat, I really need to dedicate day where I can get lots of posts scheduled. 

Whenever a new palette comes out and it contains neutrals I am all over it. Barry M are much loved for their amazing range of nail polishes but their now expanding into make up much more - with their palettes and new foundation. They have brought out three new palettes for different looks and I went for natural glow which contains 6 eyeshadows and a blush. The packaging is made up of a sturdy cardboard. 

The eyeshadows aren't the post pigmented as you can probably see from the swatches but it does contain some lovely colours for creating some natural looks. My favourite has to be the last three colours as they are perfect for creating a brown smokey eye. The blush is a lovely pale pink that is not unlike mac well dressed but with shimmer. 

The blush lasted most of the day for me but the eyeshadows didn't last quite as long with some fading after 4/5 hours which is not too bad considering the amazing price of the palette. 

I would say this palette is great for people who are starting to get into eyeshadow and do not want to quite spend the money on a naked palette. It is a nice palette to have in my collection but definitely not a necessity.

Rihanna hearts mac

When I first saw the swatches of the Rihanna fall collection for mac nothing stood out at me at all in terms of what I needed for my collection except for the packaging. I have seen a lot of people saying the packaging is cheap and tacky looking but I actually really liked it and knew I needed a couple of things purely for the that reason. I decided to go with the nude lipstick and the hibiscus blush bronzer duo. 

The packaging is just a pretty as I thought and will sit proudly on my dresser. The lipstick is a matte and is a lot darker than the swatches I had seen online previously but I actually like it because it is not like anything I already own in my collection I would describe it as a vampy nude. Although it is a matte finish it doesn't tug as much as others e.g. ruby woo and didn't show any dry matches on my lips. I found it comfortable to wear and it lasted a good 3/4 hours before showing any signs of wear. This is definitely a great nude if you don't suit true nude lipsticks. 

Again I went for the blush bronzer duo for the packaging reason. It isn't anything that I don't already own in my collection though and could have done without it. However the bronzer isn't very dark so doesn't look muddy on my face. It is too light for contouring on me personally but does give a nice overall glow to the skin. The blush is a lovely fushia pink that give a nice natural flush to the cheeks. They last most of the day with a little fading after around the six hour mark for me. 

If like me you love mac and their collections I am sure you got your hands on a few things too. The only thing I would recommend picking up if you can would be the RiRi Woo lipstick but as I already got this in June I decided not to get it in the new packaging. 

The collection is pretty much sold out online but you may find a couple thing at mac counters - be quick!
